Operation Medicine Drop

The home is the prime place prescription drugs are accessed by children and teenagers. In fact, a 2009 poll of teenagers nationwide by The Center on Addiction and Drug Use showed that 1/3 of teenagers get drugs in their own home and another 1/3 from friends who get them from their house.

Prescription drugs access also plays a role in unintentional poisonings from overdosing in children and adults and can be a source for attempting suicides in young and old alike.

Help protect your family and the environment. Bring your unused or expired prescription medications to Operation Medicine Drop where law enforcement will dispose of them properly. This event is held twice a year in Charlotte and surrounding areas.

If you are unable to make one of the events and have medications to dispose of that are not controlled substances, they can be dropped off at any of the CMC Rx locations www.cmcrx.org for appropriate disposal. Many pharmacies now allow you to buy a postage paid envelope to return and allow for the appropriate destruction of medicines, check with your local pharmacy for details.

Thank you to those who helped make homes safer at the Spring 2012Operation Medicine Drop. We collected almost 600 pounds of prescription medicine.
