Confronting A Major Health Risk

In the United States, obesity has risen at an epidemic rate during the past 20 years. One of the nation's leading health objectives is to reduce the prevalence of obesity.

Current research indicates that the situation is getting worse rather than improving. National child obesity rates have doubled in the past two decades and teen obesity rates have tripled.

Obesity is associated with serious medical problems and decreased lifespan. It has been suggested that today's children will be the first generation with a shorter life expectancy than their parents.

Understanding Your Options

Carolinas Weight Management & Wellness Center was created in 2007. Our facility is unique, as we are the first in the region to combine medical and surgical weight loss programs in the same center. This joining of resources allows us to provide the most comprehensive and advanced medical and surgical options available to assist with weight loss, weight maintenance and wellness.

Our "TLC" (Teen Lifestyle Changes) program opened in 2008 to address the growing child obesity epidemic.

Overweight children tend to become overweight teens, and an overweight teen has an 80 percent chance of becoming an overweight adult. Our mission is to encourage young people to live healthier lifestyles and to provide them with the resources needed in support of this process. We empower teens to make changes while offering them a comfortable and supportive environment to seek treatment, education and encouragement.
