CARE (Caring About Remission Everyday) Clinic

The CARE Clinic is a special clinic for long term cancer survivors. A multidisciplinary approach to provide direct patient care, educate, and counsel patients regarding the specific risks to which they are susceptible. This clinic changes from a focus on treatment of the primary disease and/or its recurrence to a focus on wellness and surveillance of potential late-effects of therapy. For more information please contact the LCH Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at 704-381-9900.

Carolinas Diabetes Center

Diabetes is a disease that requires constant monitoring and care for anyone who is managing it, but diabetes in children increases the demand for care. Children's changing bodies cause sugar levels to swing wildly, and they can react differently to their medicine from week to week. Our specialized diabetes center plays an important role in assisting primary care physicians as they help patients successfully self-manage their disease. Through individual and small group sessions, patients and family members learn about topics including meal planning, exercise regimens and the importance of checking blood sugar levels regularly. For more information, please contact 704-446-2320. Visit web site.

Carolinas Pediatric Resource Center

Childhood should be a safe time for children. Unfortunately, some children are denied this basic right, suffering from neglect and abuse at the hands of the very people entrusted with their care. The Pediatric Resource Center is a clinic dedicated to the unique and delicate needs of children who are suspected of being victims of sexual abuse.

The warm and friendly environment is filled with toys, art supplies, games, videotapes and magazines. Even more importantly, it is staffed by caring professionals who work carefully and systematically with children to help understand what they will need to begin to heal.

If you suspect that a child you know has been a victim of abuse, contact the Department of Social Services' 24-Hour Child Abuse and Neglect HOTLINE: 704-336-CARE (2273). Click here for more information.

Neonatal and Infant Apnea Program

The Neonatal and Infant Apnea Program  helps practitioners provide state-of-the-art care for infants with apnea. The program assists infants' primary care physicians with diagnostic studies and ongoing home monitoring interpretation. The results and implications of each study are discussed directly with the infant's physician or nurse, including options for management.

Neonatal Home Management Program

For neonatal infants and families, the transition from hospital to home isn't always easy. That's why we have a team of neonatal nurses to help families at home after their child's been discharged.

As a part of our Neonatal Home Management Program, these specially trained nurses help families assess the physical well-being and progress of the child. They also provide important emotional and psychological support to the family who may be overwhelmed or learning how to care for their child's special needs.

One Day Surgery Center

Many medical services and surgical procedures that once required an overnight stay can today be done in a few hours in our One Day Surgery Center. Located on the first floor of the Medical Center Plaza on the Carolinas Medical Center campus, the Center features 11 operating rooms, a recovery room area and a stepdown unit.

For more information, call 704-355-5776. Tours of the facility are available for pediatric patients and their families. To schedule a tour, call the Child Life Program at 704-381-3257.

Pediatric Cardiovascular Services

Many adults must consider taking steps to ensure a healthy heart. But most don't have to face something much harder -
learning their child's heart is damaged. TheSanger Pediatric Team pediatric cardiologists provide services for infants, children and young adults
with congenital and acquired cardiac problems. We provide patients and their families with inpatient and outpatient diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care for many cardiovascular disorders.

The pediatric cardiologists and pediatric cardiovascular surgeons from the Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute proivde the most advanced diagnostic evaluation methods such as such as color doppler echocardiography and cardiac catheterization available today to pediatric cardiac patients. Currently, we are home to the only  pediatric cardiac-catheterization and pediatric cardiovascular surgery programs in the region. Our cardiologists use cardiac caths to do more than help determine the severity of a child's heart defect . Many problems can be treated right in the cath lab, which means your child may be able to avoid

Services provided by this comprehensive care program include catheterization procedures, open heart surgeries, interventions on lung and peripheral vessels, transplants, cardiothoracic and pulmonary surgery, peripheral vascular surgery, pacemaker and defibrillator implantation, ablation therapy and ECMO therapy. As an alternative to surgery, the staff also uses advanced interventional cardiology techniques where appropriate. For more information about the pediatric cardiology program and Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute please call 704-373-1813 or 800-Pediatric Oncology55-HEART.
