The Infectious Disease specialists provide consultation and counseling for inpatients and outpatients with acute or chronic pediatric infections. Laboratory assistance in diagnosis of infections and assistance in the selection of antibiotics, antivirals and other therapies is provided.
Conditions diagnosed and treated include:
- Antimicrobial treatment failures
- Chronic and recurring infections
- Congenital infections
- Fevers: recurrent, persistent or unexplained
- HIV exposure (especially newborns)
- HIV infection
- Infections from multi-resistant organisms
- Serious or life-threatening infections
- Suspected immunodeficiencies
- Travel-related disease
- Viral infections, severe or persistent
