Transplantation is defined as the transfer of organs, tissues, or cells from one person to another or from one area of the body to another, in order to replace a diseased structure and to restore function. Levine Children's Hospital is home to the only pediatric transplant program in the western half of North Carolina. The transplant team consists of certified clinical transplant coordinators and dedicated transplant surgeons and physicians who together provide comprehensive diagnosis and medical/surgical management for infants, children and adolescents who are undergoing transplant procedures. The pediatric transplant program also offers personal evaluations with medical social workers and collaboration with a dedicated transplant pharmacist and dieticians.
