Wendy Upton, RN, is the Quality Improvement Coach for the Center for Advancing Pediatric Excellence (CAPE). She started with Carolinas HealthCare System in 1995, enjoying over thirteen years of experience as a pediatric RN. Her clinical experience includes the Newborn Nursery, the Pediatric Unit, the NICU, and an ambulatory pediatric office, as well as managing a pediatric lab. Wendy has always challenged the status quo wherever she has worked, but it was not until she started working with Dr. Laura Noonan, CAPE Director, that she realized her love for the science of QI. Wendy has been trained in the Demming Model of Improvement. She is currently part of Transition Care Initiative at the Children's Specialty Center.
Wendy received a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Illinois Wesleyan University, followed by a nursing degree from the Carolinas College of Health Sciences. Licensed to practice nursing in the state of North Carolina, she is also a member of the Case Management Society of America, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions.
