Why Levine Children's Hospital?
Trauma kills more children than all other diseases combined. Because children respond differently than adults, those with severe injuries often require specialized care beyond the resources of most hospitals.
- The Hemby Pediatric Trauma Institute is the pediatric branch of the F.H. "Sammy" Ross, Jr. Trauma Center, a nationally verified and state designated Level One Trauma Center.
- The physician faculty of The Hemby Pediatric Trauma Institute are Board Certified in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and are available in the hospital 24 hours a day
- A specialized interdisciplinary pediatric trauma response team is always on alert to receive pediatric trauma patients and begin treatment immediately
- The Hemby Pediatric Trauma Institute encompasses a comprehensive system of pediatric trauma care including pre-hospital care, acute treatment, rehabilitation, injury prevention and research
- Nurses specializing in pediatric trauma receive ongoing education that is specifically focused on the care of injured children.
- The care of trauma patients at LCH involves a team of pediatric specialists that work with the trauma surgeons to ensure the best and most comprehensive care for children with multiple injuries. Specialists who may be involved in the care of these young patients include pediatric orthopedists, neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, pediatric surgeons, pediatric intensivists, and pediatric physiatrists (physicians trained in physical medicine and rehabilitation).
