In-house Volunteers and 'On-call' Volunteers: Adult Volunteers (18 and older)
To obtain an application to become either an in-house volunteer or an on-call volunteer, you must attend a 30 - 45 minute pre-application meeting. This meeting outlines the focus of Levine Children's Hospital, the various volunteer positions available, the volunteer program's commitment requirements and what you can expect from the volunteer application process. Applications are handed out at the end of this meeting.
The application process consists of completing and returning the application to the Levine Children's Hospital Volunteer Department. Each application requires two references (non-family members), a health history form (proof of MMR vaccinations) and a background disclosure verification. Levine Children's Hospital Volunteer Department does require background checks on all volunteers that want to help in Levine Children's Hospital.
Once the Volunteer Department receives both of the references, a background check will be submitted. Upon the receipt of an approved background check, the Volunteer Department will call to schedule an interview. At this point, the volunteer candidate and the Volunteer Manager will determine if there is a volunteer position and shift available.
If a volunteer position has been identified, the volunteer will meet with the Employee Health Department to recieve a health assessment. At this time, the volunteer will recieve the first of two TB tests and should provide proof of MMR immunizations. At least two weeks after the first TB test, the volunteer will need to return and have a second TB test performed.
The volunteer also must attend an orientation prior to volunteering in Levine Children's Hospital. The orientation is roughly 3 - 4 hours long and provides information volunteers need to know in order to provide service in a hospital setting.
Teen Volunteers (15 - 18 years old)
At this time, our Teen Volunteer Program is limited to the summer months of June, July and August, Monday through Friday. To be eligilbe for the summer teen volunteer program, you need to be available on a consistent basis for 6 - 8 weeks. Each teen volunteer will be scheduled for at least one 3 hour shift each week. The specific dates for the program have not been determined, but will be between June 15 and August 14, 2009.
LCH Volunteer Services will begin sending out applications January 1, 2009. The deadline for completed applications is April 13, 2009. All qualified teen applicants will be invited to interview with LCH Volunteer Services during the weeks of May 11 and May 18, 2009.
Given the expected high demand of applications, there will be limited teen volunteer placements for this summer. Each chosen teen volunteer will be required to attend a general 3 hour orientation during the first two weeks of June (dates and times to be determined).
If you would like to receive a teen volunteer application, please contact Julie MacDonald at 704-381-2092 after January 1, 2009.
