After a significant injury or illness, children often need inpatient rehabilitation services to regain the strength and functional skills needed to return home or school. The fourth floor Rehabilitation Pavilion offers the services they need, including 24-hour rehabilitation nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, recreational therapy and cognitive education.
The Rehabilitation Pavilion has multiple areas designed to help children recover as quickly as possible. In the therapy gym, physical and occupational therapists work with children on mobility, strengthening, fine motor skills and activities of daily living. Down the hall is the classroom, where the cognitive education specialist works with children on what they need for a successful return to school.
The Pavilion also houses two therapeutic recreation rooms, one for younger children and one for teens, where play is aimed toward rehabilitative goals. The speech therapy space includes an observation room where parents can observe children at work without disruption. And the dining room provides a large space where children can eat meals with one another and find snacks to get them through their therapy-filled days. After a full day of therapy, the children retire to a private room complete with amenities that allow for quiet time with family and friends.
The Rehabilitation Pavilion is designated as a gift to children of the Carolinas from Food Lion.
